Dreamcasters
By Rebecca Gall
A young adult romantic suspense novel with a paranormal twist ...
excerpt
"Thanks for the help, Ethan," I say with a forced smile like we've just carried in groceries rather than my booze-saturated mom.
"Um, yeah, no problem. But I guess I should probably go."
Not that there's any way I'm letting Ethan off the hook about Jonah, but for tonight I figure he's had more than enough of the Cole family and its secrets. I walk him to the door and say, "Listen, Ethan, I'm sorry about my mom ... and well, about everything."
"Everything?"
It takes me a second to realize he's asking if I'm sorry that we almost kissed. My heart kick-starts as I wonder if he's going to pick up where we left off.
Instead, he reaches for the door. He stops with his hand on the knob and nods toward the living room where Mom's snores continue to bounce off the walls. "By the way ... where's your dad?"
"He died when I was little." I've said the words so many times over the years I don't even feel them anymore.
"I'm sorry. I didn't know." Ethan sounds like he means it.
I shrug. "It's no big deal. It happened a long time ago."
"In that case--" Ethan opens the door and steps outside. "--goodnight, Meredith ... and sweet dreams."
Sweet dreams? Who says that these days?
And besides ... if he only knew.
synopsis
Sixteen-year-old Meredith Cole has more important things to worry about than guys ... like taking care of her drunk-as-a-skunk mom and her younger sister who has a severe case of primp-itis. Then there's the fact that Meredith's life has turned into a nightmare. Literally.
Her brother Jonah's disappearance triggers dreams of tragic accidents and eventually murder. But Meredith soon realizes her dreams aren't just nightmares. They're predictors of things to come. Enter Ethan Vaughn, the hot soccer player who seems to know more about Jonah and the murders than he lets on.
In order to stop a murderer and solve the mystery of her brother's disappearance, Meredith enlists the support of the online group Dreamcasters. There's just one catch: members of the group must dream reality--past, present, or future.
