Look, Mommy, No Hands!
By Rebecca Gall
A contemporary picture book about the first day of school ...
excerpt
Ms. Bunch has crinkly hair.
She already knows my name.
Kids and books fill the room.
My chair seems far away.
I find the basket below my desk
And slide my crayons inside.
Ms. Bunch says it's goodbye time,
So I let go of your hand.
synopsis
Different stages of holding hands (having to let go of Mommy's hand, holding hands with friends, offering to hold Mommy's hand) parallel the main character's journey toward independence and self-confidence on the first day of school.
